This session provides a theoretical background of mindfulness while providing techniques for implementing secularized contemplative practices specifically designed for visual art classrooms. Mindfulness as a practice has been proven to help combat toxic stress while enhancing overall presence, awareness, focus, calm, resilience, attention, compassion, emotional regulation, adaptability, self-control, recovery, and memory among others. This session will cover methods for embedding contemplative practice into art classrooms through creative visual art experiences aimed to cultivate heartfulness, where kindness, compassion, positivity and empathy. Created by a leading scholar with over 30 years of experience teaching art and practicing mindfulness, this session is for any teacher seasoned or beginner wanting to explore the positive effects of contemplative practice in any art education setting.

This session provides an overview of the laws surrounding English Learning, Sheltered English Immersion, and the ways in which art teachers are required to meet student needs.
