Episode 217: The Dangerous Power of Teaching Art
How could teaching art be dangerous? Well, we all know a kiln is no simple piece of equipment, but we are not talking about dangerous in the traditional sense. In this episode, we’re discussing how dangerous teaching art is because it promotes creativity, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and is an overall transformative force in students’ lives. To talk about this, the Creativity Department sat down with Connie Stewart, author of Cultivating Critical Conversations in Art Education and professor of art education at the University of Northern Colorado. Connie shares how melding creativity into the classroom empowers students, as well as provides new insight into the importance of arts education. Listen in and explore what students are missing cognitively, culturally, and emotionally when the arts are cut from their curriculum.
