Contemporary Art Articles

By Nancy Walkup, posted on Sep 27, 2016

Every month SchoolArts magazine has a Looking and Learning feature that is based on contemporary art and artists that includes beginner, intermediate, and advanced activities for students. Why do we focus on contemporary art? As art reflects the times in which it was created, contemporary art may not always be “beautiful” in a conventional sense, but it expresses current events, ideas, issues, and concerns of present-day life that are likely to engage students and be meaningful to them. Contemporary art may also use new, emerging technologies that reflect students’ interests.
