Drawing Daisy

By Nancy Walkup, posted on May 17, 2010

Our school has two therapy dogs, Daisy and Rosie, that belong to our counselor.

Today I "borrowed" Daisy to model for my kindergarten students. We all sat on the floor with Daisy in the middle, while the kids drew with white oil pastels on black paper. Before we started drawing, I asked my students why Daisy and Rosie were at our school. Answers included "to help us," "to keep us from being sad," "to lick our hands," "to let us pet them,"and "to be a friend." And the counselor came down to see the students' drawings as they were finishing. I think I will give them to her to hang in her office.
