At the end of the 1950s, Rosenquist painted billboards and signs, a job that had a lasting impact on his style, in which he abandoned abstraction and conceived of monumental scale paintings. Having met Oldenburg, Johns, and Rauschenberg, Rosenquist was soon assimilated into what was becoming known as the Pop Art movement.
