Woman with a Pearl Necklace in a Loge
Cassatt displayed the traditional American preference for realism, searching for a solid, timeless image: she settled on women and mother-and-child subjects. In her emphasis on a connection with the subjects, she also departed from the indifference that most Impressionists had toward their subjects.
