View Over Holyoke, Massachusetts
In the early 1960s, Leslie concentrated on a narrative, realist style, seeking to go beyond purely photographic impact and to reintroduce traditional realist genres - specifically, history painting. In this, he was strongly influenced by Baroque artists, including Carravaggio, and by the solid, balanced compositions of the Renaissance.
