The rough textured surfaces over which light dances in the piece is an influence of Impressionism, and the introspective, compacted pose relects Romaniticism's emphasis on drama. Although Rodin's work is grounded in realism, it exudes a power and energy which transcend visual realism, and seeks to express the soul of man.
