The Presidential Family
Even at a young age, Botero showed respect for conventional artistic techniques. He studied art first in his native Medellin, then in Bogotá, and finally in the mid-1950s in Madrid and Paris. While in Europe, he did not study any of the avant-garde movements of the time, but rather Baroque and Renaissance art. Like Rivera, he was impressed with the classic monumentality of figures in Italian Renaissance frescoes.
