Succulent Eggplants
This work is informed by Baroque colonial art with the filigree halos of the saints, the floral robes of the Virgin, folk styles of painted furniture, and even the colorful costumes and floats of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. It is also influenced by the shapes of the work of the Brazilian surrealist of the 1930s and 1940s Tarsila de Amaral.
