Portrait of Jacomina Winkler
Duyckinck was part of the large German immigrant colony in Pennsylvania. Although he copies the format of European portraiture with the "at home" pose and landscape background, his figure has the flat, hard-edged quality of German Renaissance portraiture and none of the luminous, soft quality of English painters.
