Large miniature from Henry of Seguiso's “Summa Aurea”: Henry displaying his lineage (Table of Consanguity)
Many rulers and nobles would commission artists to illustrate books which showed significant events in their lives, believing they had made valuable contributions to Christendom. A "Summa Aurea" is literally a summing-up of the "highlights" of Henry's life. This page from the front of the manuscript shows Henry displaying his lineage.
