Colossal head, from San Lorenzo
Olmec refers to the culture of southern Vera Cruz and Tabasco which existed during the Pre-Classic Period (1500 BC-AD 150). The large carved heads, altars and sculpture of the Olmec are monuments of the oldest known culture in Pre-Hispanic Mexico.
