By Nancy Walkup, posted on Apr 11, 2012

SchoolArts and CRIZMAC are offering an indepth experience, Folk Art Extravaganza, in conjunction with the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, July 11-17. We will be housed at the lovely Inn of the Governors, a convenient hotel in downtown Santa Fe. Read below to see what we have planned for our participants. You may also find more information on CRIZMAC's website.

Wednesday, July 11
Upon arrival in the beautiful city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, check into the charming and comfortable Inn of the Governors Hotel. Our hotel is well located, within walking distance to the central historic plaza, galleries, restaurants, and incredible shopping. If your schedule permits, take some time this afternoon to stroll around and familiarize yourself with “everybody’s favorite city different.”

This evening, you will be met in the hotel lobby by Nancy and Stevie and escorted to our welcome dinner at a popular local restaurant, followed by a short orientation to the workshop.

Thursday, July 12

Following a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will meet for the opening folk art lecture. Mid-morning we’ll visit the fabulous International Folk Art Museum for our first introduction to the many art forms we will encounter at the coming Folk Art Market. After enjoying lunch on your own, we will reconvene at the Inn of the Governors for an art-making activity. In the evening, we’ll enjoy an event sponsored by the Folk Art Market. The folk artists who are participating in the Market are introduced, among other festivities and music.

Friday, July 13
After another tasty breakfast, we will spend the day involved in a variety of art-making activities with applications for all grade levels. Small group activities, games, and discussions about folk art and how to teach it in your classroom are all part of the agenda.

Saturday, July 14

Tickets to attend the International Folk Art Market are included in the workshop fee. We’ll spend the day at the market learning about folk art from all over the world. This is an unparalleled opportunity to view and collect cultural objects from all over the world and to meet these master artists and observe their skills firsthand. Public transportation from the Plaza in Santa Fe is provided, so you will
have the flexibility to enjoy the day as you wish.

Sunday, July 15

After eating a hearty breakfast to fuel us for another fabulous day, we’ll eagerly depart for the market. With more than 170 artists represented from 52 countries, there is always lots to see and do.

Monday, July 16

This morning, we’ll reconvene after breakfast to complete any hands-on activities or projects. A closing presentation and sharing will conclude our morning. The afternoon is free for you to explore more of Santa Fe on your own. In the evening, we’ll enjoy an unforgettable final dinner at a favorite Santa Fe restaurant.

Tuesday, July 17

Depart with many incredible memories of the Folk Art Market, lots of ideas for teaching about folk art in your classroom, and just maybe a new treasure in your suitcase!
