About The Editor
Nancy Walkup is the editor of SchoolArts and a contributing author for Explorations in Art, Davis Publications’ elementary textbook series.
Nancy's thirty-plus year teaching experience covers all grade levels from kindergarten through university. Highlights of her career include serving as project coordinator for the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts (NTIEVA), a national art education initiative funded in part by the Getty Institute and the Annenberg Foundation. Nancy was also the conference chair for the 2001 National Art Education Association conference held in New York City.
Nancy's honors include serving as an invited teacher at an elementary school in Beijing, China; selection for the Japanese Fulbright Memorial Teacher program; and being named 2007 Teacher of the Year for her campus. She has won numerous awards from the art education associations of Louisiana and Texas as well as the National Art Education Association. Most recently, Nancy was named Elementary Art Educator of the Year, by TAEA in 2010. She was until recently the Elementary Director of NAEA and the director of NTIEVA, returning to the Institute after ten years at Ryan Elementary School in Denton, Texas.
Nancy presents regularly at NAEA and similar venues and has served as an art education consultant for school districts and as a presenter for professional development. She has given keynotes addresses and other art education presentations in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Michigan, Florida, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Vermont. In addition, Nancy leads annual summer seminars for art educators in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Oaxaca, Mexico. Email Nancy at NWalkup@DavisArt.com
