Zimmerman, Dominikus (Germany, 1685-1766)
The German Baroque architect Zimmerman is famous for a church in Bavaria, Germany, called Die Wies. The exterior is serene and plain, but the interior bursts with energy. Color and light are combined with swirling decoration to create an eruption of visual movement. White walls and gold decoration reflect sunlight from many windows. The interior style is called Rococo, which became popular in the eighteenth century.

Zorach, William (United States, 1887-1966)
Zorach was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the United States. His work in sculpture is marked by solid and simple forms with few details. His practice of direct carving, using the form of stone as a point of departure, influenced many other artists. He occasionally worked in metal but preferred to carve stone.
