Oarsmen at Chatou
From 1870 to 1880, Renoir became particularly adept at creating the Impressionist effects of dappled sunlight, a perfect way in which to depict the flickering, temporary nature of light on color. In the spirit of Impressionism, he enjoyed depicting the pastimes of the Parisian middle class.
