Man on Fire (Self-Portrait)
Because of the minority rights movements, the art of Mexican-Americans began to receive more attention by mainstream America during the late 1960s. Many who had turned to American art of the time, such as Pop Art, for inspiration turned to their cultural heritage instead. Luis Jiménez is a socially aware Mexican-American sculptor who uses the Pop Art sensibility for expression.
