Leaf excised from a lectionary from Constantinope: Saint Matthew
Though this full page miniature of St Matthew writing his gospel is two centuries later than example in #02, the Byzantine artists still consciously imitate the late Roman style of painting, with more emphasis on modeling of form, and intimations of depth.
