Although she did not consider herself a professional photographer, Cameron did consider herself an artist and called her photographs "High Art." Photography at the time that imitated painting was called Artistic Photography (the style now called Pictorialism). Cameron’s allegorical portraits were strongly influenced by Pre-Raphaelite painting in England.
